Vera Barnes

It is with heavy hearts that we announce Vera Barnes, age 93, departed this life peacefully on May 14, 2026 at her daughter's home with her family by her side in New Orleans, Louisiana. 

Funeral Services will be held Friday, May 22, 2026, at The Church Of The Living God Resurrection, 1011 Maple Street, Waveland, MS. Visitation Hours will be from 10:00 a.m. through 11:00 a.m. The Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 a.m.

Vera was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. She developed the strength, grace, and loving spirit that would follow her throughout her life. In 1972, she migrated to Waveland, MS., where she became a well-known and respected member of the community. Vera was a member of Compassion And Power Restoration Ministries, under the leadership of Pastors, Joel and Lunita Wallace. She was the Mother of the Church until her passing. Vera dedicated multiple years of service working at St. Stanislaus under the supervision of Brother Pierre..

She is survived by her beloved daughters; Elverna Taylor, Carol Moore, and Gail Brumfield, sisters; Gloria Hawkins, Alma Hawkins, Joanne McLaurin, and Carmel Hawkins, a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Interment will be held in the Waveland Cemetery on Dufour Road following the funeral service.
