Sylvester Trotter

It is with heavy hearts that we announce Mr. Sylvester Trotter, age 87, departed this earthly life at Picayune Health and Rehabilitation, in Picayune, MS, May 21, 2026. He was a resident of Poplarville, MS.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday June 6, 2026 at New Welcome Baptist Church, 12 Whitesand Road, Poplarville, MS.  Visitation Hours will be from 10:00 a.am untill 11:00 a.m. The Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 a.m. 

Brother Sylvester was preceded in death by his parents, George and Georgia Trotter; 12 siblings, Elvira McDonald, Rena Johnson, Catherine Edmonds, Ida Trotter, Mattie Fowler, Jethro, James, C.L., Joel, A.C., Jeremial and Nehemiah Trotter. Sylvester was the 11th child of 13 siblings.

Brother Trotter was a member of Salem Baptist Church in Vossburg, Miss. He later moved to Poplarville, MS, under the guidance and caregiver of his late sister, Mattie Fowler. Sylvester joined New Welcome Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. M.J. Galloway, he loved his church, loved his family, and loved to garden.

He leaves to cherish his memories two special great-nephews, and caregivers; Sanchez and Sarrell Brumfield of Picayune, MS; four special nieces, Joyce (Herbert) Brumfield, Mamie Nixon of Picayune, Miss., Judy Fowler and, Faye Alexander of Poplarville, MS; other caregivers, great-great-great-nieces and nephews; a special great niece, Vanessa Fowler for her dedication and unwavering care for him while he was at Picayune Health and Rehabilitation; two sisters-in-law, Iola Trotter of Sebring, FL, and Helen Trotter of Vossburg, MS, and a host of relatives and friends.

The Burial Service will take place in Dave Monday Cemetery under the direction of Baylous Funeral Home
