We are saddened to announce Mr. Proby Cooper entered into eternal rest on May 5, 2026, in Riverside, California, and is now with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Proby was surrounded by family and loved ones when he peacefully passed away early Tuesday morning at the age of 92.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 30, 2026, at East Jerusalem Baptist Church, 1124 East Jerusalem Ave, Picayune, Mississippi 39466. Visitation Hours are from: 10:00am until 11:00 a.m. The Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Russell Davis will officiate the service.
Proby Cooper was born on September 16, 1933, to the late Lucion Sr. and Lily Mae Cooper in Bude, Mississippi. He was married to the late Jimmie Lou Cooper for nearly 60 years.
Proby was a member of East Jerusalem Baptist Church for more than 60 years. He faithfully attended until his health began to fail. Proby served under the leadership of Pastor E. H. Hart, Pastor Alonzo Dees, and Pastor Brian Dees. He was an active member of the Brotherhood and of the Finance Committees in the church.
Proby was preceded in death by his parents, Lucion Sr. and Lillie Mae Cooper; his wife Jimmie Lou Cooper; grandson, Zavier Branch; son-in-law, Ronnie Keith Branch, and siblings, Lucion Cooper Jr., Leslie Mae Marshall, Gertrude Luster, and Roosevelt Cooper.
He is survived by five daughters, Veronica Cooper of Groton, Connecticut, Elice Cooper-Johnson (Warren) of Camarillo, California., Peggy Cooper of Groton, Connecticut, Cynthia Cooper-Branch of Corona, California., and Sonji Cooper-Harris (Denver) of Riverside, California; grandchildren, Tameasha Cooper, Maegan Cooper, Melissa Cooper, Sabrina Kinchen, all of Connecticut, Ronnie Branch, London Harris-Dozier (Joseph), Shay Harris, Jasmine Harris, Denver Harris Jr., Kaylin Johnson, Marques Johnson all of California, and Alyssa Johnson, Edinburgh, Scotland, and great-grandchildren, Kieran, Gianna of Connecticut, Paris, Winter, Dream, Jaxson, Josiah, and Mya of California.
Interment will take place in the 8th Street Picayune Cemetery following the Funeral Service under the director of Baylous Funeral Home.
There will be a Repast at East Jerusalem Baptist Church following the burial service. 1124 E. Jerusalem Ave. Picayune, MS.
