Obituary

Mrs. Mattie Pearl Mark, a native of Picayune, MS, passed away on February 23, 2023, at the age of 89 in Poplarville, MS. She was a devoted member of St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church from the age of 12, where she actively participated in the Jr. Choir, Jr. Mission, Senior Choir, and the Dress committee for the Senior Choir. Known for her kind-hearted nature, Mattie was deeply committed to her children and her pastor, always ready to lend a helping hand.

Her work history included roles as a police traffic guard for the Picayune School System, at the Picayune Convalescent Home, the Mississippi Ammunition Plant, and as a Head Start bus Monitor, where she was affectionately known as Mrs. Mattie by the children.

She is survived by her three sons, Rochell (Glenda) Mark Jr., Donald Mark Sr., and Ronald (Lucinda) Mark Sr.; two daughters, Leatrice Mark Brown and Gretchen (Eddie) Porter; 20 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles (Burtha) Malone; and three sisters, Joan (Willie) Turner, Ida Tall, and Doris McClain. She was predeceased by her husband, Rochell Mark Sr.; one son, Hebert Mark; one daughter, Carolyn Mark Harry; her parents, Booker and Clara McClain; and one brother, Louis Malone.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at 12 noon, with family viewing from 10:30 am to 11 am and public viewing from 11 am to 12 noon. Rev. Michael Kelly will officiate the service, and burial will take place at the Picayune Cemetery under the direction of Baylous Home.
