Martha Jane Acker, age 89, of Picayune, MS, passed away on December 13, 2020, at Highland Community Hospital. Born in Cybus, MS, Martha dedicated her life to caring for others as a CNA at Crosby Memorial Hospital and Picayune Convalescent Home. A devoted member of Weems Chapel United Methodist Church, she was actively involved in various church activities, including singing in the choir, serving as President of the Senior Choirs, and acting as a spiritual life leader in the Methodist MCG. Martha also represented the United Methodist Women Conference, served as a Communion Stewardess, and was a member of the Eastern Star. She was a regular attendee of Bible Study and Sunday School.

Martha is survived by her five sons, Sherman Lloyd Acker Jr. of Arlington, VA, Ray Anthony (Christine) Acker of Long Beach, MS, Lindsey Rene' (Rebecca) Acker of Hattiesburg, MS, Corey (Tricee) Acker of Picayune, MS, and Sean Acker of Atlanta, GA; her daughter, Paulette McGlothin of Jackson, MS; 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; her sister, Evelyn Parker Walker of Ypsilanti, MS; and her daughter-in-law, Mary Acker. She is also remembered fondly by her caregivers Sandra Johnson, Jackie Bogan, and Africa Simmons.

Martha was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Sherman Acker Sr.; her parents, Lenzy C. and Princess Parker; her siblings L.C. Parker, A.C. Parker, her twin brother, Autry James Parker, and Edward Lee Parker; her daughter-in-law, Ada Acker; and her son-in-law, Leo McGlothin.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 22, 2020, at 1 p.m. in New Palestine Cemetery, with a walk-through viewing from 10 a.m. until noon at Baylous Funeral Home. Rev. Robert Pittiman will officiate the service. Baylous Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
