Mamie P. Nixon

With heavy heart we announce Mamie P. Nixon of Poplarville, MS, passed away August 9, 2026, at Bedford Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 22, 2026, at New Welcome Baptist Church, 12 White Sand Rd, Poplarville, MS 39470. Visitation Hour will be from 12:00 p.m. until 12:55 p.m. The Funeral Service will start at 1:00 p.m. The Interment Service will take place in Dave Monday Cemetery in White Sand, MS.

Mamie attended the Todd Memorial School, after completion of high school, she attended night school to further her education. Mamie was employed by the Poplarville School District as a culinary cook, after leaving the Poplarville School District, she continued using her culinary skills at Pearl River Community College for 36 years until her retirement due to health.

Mamie accepted Christ as her Lord and personal Savior at an early age at New Welcome Baptist church under the leadership of the late R.H. Hart and later served under the leadership of the Rev. M.J. Galloway.

Sister Mamie was a very active member of the church, she sang in the Adult Choir, a member of Mission #2. Mamie loved her church and loved her family.

Preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Fowler; one brother, John Roberts, and one sister, Amie Fowler.

She leaves to cherish her memory, three sisters, Judy Fowler, Janice Faye Alexander of Poplarville, Miss., and Joyce (Herbert) Brumfield of Picayune, Miss.; four brothers, John (Annie) Fowler, L.C. (Cindy) Fowler, Jerry Fowler and Alden Frank Trotter all of Poplarville, MS; special niece, Tricee (Corey) Acker; special friend, Sister Marlyn Houston, and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, relatives and friends.
