We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Lou Emma Stewart, age 90, of Picayune MS, who passed away August 3, 2026 at Forrest General Hospital.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026 at Saint Matthews Missionary Baptist Church, 2000 James Thomas Rd, Picayune, MS 39466. Viewing Hours will be from 10:00 a.m. until 10:55 a.m. The Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Following will be The Internment Service which will take place in New Palestine Cemetery, 2336 Palestine Rd, Picayune, MS 39466
Lou Emma was a member of St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church, she served on the Usher board. She worked as a Domestic Engineer for various auto dealerships, medical centers, doctor and attorneys offices and private homes, she also provided loving home care for elderly parents whose professional children needed someone trustworthy to care for their loved ones while they worked. She worked as a sewing machine operator at the Blanket Factory, she became known as one of the best workers, recognized for producing quality work with few rejections. Lou Emma was also an entrepreneur known for her remarkable cooking and baking skills, where she could walk into homes and prepare complete meals, for parties, family gatherings, plus donate to other charitable functions. She was known for her "Stock it to me cake" and pies through-out the Picayune and surrounding areas.
People would travel to Sally Drive just to see her beautiful loving creativity of Christians lights and decorations displayed in her yard . Her display was featured in the local newspaper and spoken of on local radio and television stations.
Preceded in death by her parents, CJ Joiner and Emma Estella Young, husband Rev. Howard D. Stewart Sr., son, James Lee Stewart, sisters; Trank Young, Patricia Young Howard, brother, Otis C. Joiner.
She leaves behind a legendary foundation of love, strength, faith, hard work, and memories for her family to be proud of and carry forward. Four children, Howard D. Stewart Jr., (Cynthia) of Rockledge, FL., Albert E. Stewart, of Davenport, Iowa, Ida M. Holder (Rev. Dennis E. Holder) of Picayune, MS., Michael C. Stewart of Picayune, MS., brother, William Young of Grand Prairie, TX., nine grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends.
