Lois M. Acker-Oliver

With heavy hearts and unwavering faith in God’s promises, we celebrate the life of Lois Mae Acker Oliver, affectionately known as “Dear.”

Mrs. Oliver was born on Oct. 23, 1932 to the late Freddie Acker and Alice Leona Peterson Acker. She transitioned from the earthly to the eternal life on Sept. 1, 2026 in Brandon, FL.

Lois Acker married Isiah Oliver and to this union two children were born; son, Reginald and daughter, Paula.

Mrs. Oliver found a spiritual home at Pilgrim Bound Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. R.W. Woullard.

She received her education from Picayune Colored School, G.W. Carver High School, Piney Woods Jr. College, Alcorn A&M College (receiving a BS Elementary Education), University of Southern Mississippi, Bradley University, and William Carey College.

Her professional career began in Gainesville, Miss. where she instructed 52 students in one classroom. She relocated to teach in Logtown, MS, Carriere, MS, East Side Elementary, Picayune, MS, and Nicholson Elementary, Nicholson, MS. Her teaching career spanned almost 40 years. Her connection to the education continued as a substitute teacher and a mentor to young students.

During her retirement years, she served as Treasurer of the local chapter of the Retired Teachers Association, member of the G.W. Carver Reunion Committee (Secretary) and member of Shades of Ebony Social Club.

Mrs. Oliver was preceded in death by Freddie Acker (father), Alice L. Acker (mother), Mildred Acker White (sister), and brothers, Paul Edward Acker and Herman Acker.

Each person and/or group that she associated with will forever treasure her love, humor, wisdom and friendship.

Funeral Services will on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at Pilgrim Bound Baptist Church, 921 Baylous Street, Picayune, MS 39466. Visitation Hours will be from 10:00 am until 11:55 a.m. The Funeral Service will begin at 12:00 pm. 

Interment will be in the Picayune Cemetery, 8th Street, Picayune, MS 39466
