Kristopher Marion Jamal Word, affectionately known as Kris, was born on July 17, 1988, in Gulfport, MS, to Rose M. Lewis and Marion Word, Jr. On August 29, 2023, Kris departed this life to his heavenly home.

Kris was a cherished member of Valena C. Jones United Methodist Church in Bay St. Louis, MS, where he was actively involved as an acolyte and a member of the youth choir during his younger years. He attended Bay St. Louis Schools, where he excelled in varsity football and soccer at Bay High. Following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Kris completed his senior year at Long Beach High.

Known for his humility and loving nature, Kris was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. While he held various jobs, his true passion lay in landscaping, particularly in creating beautiful flower beds.

Kris was preceded in death by his father, Marion Word, Jr.; his nephew, Aubrey Lewis; his brother, Gregory Jackson; and his beloved grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Frank Lewis and Mr. & Mrs. Marion Word, Sr.

He leaves behind a loving family to cherish his memory, including his mother, Rose M. Lewis of Bay St. Louis, MS; sisters, Dawn Lewis of Bay St. Louis, MS, and Yolanda Word of Gulfport, MS; brother, Britt Hutson of Gulfport, MS; and his special nephews, D'Quan Lewis, Maxwell Lewis, and Ta'Voris Stuckey of Bay St. Louis, MS. He is also survived by his great Aunt Ollie Lewis of Bay St. Louis, MS; great nephew Levi Lymuel of Waveland, MS; great niece Madeline Rose Lewis of Bay St. Louis, MS; and his godparents, Ollie H. Peters of Maryland, and Rickey Cameron of Bay St. Louis, MS. Kris will be dearly missed by many other family members and friends.

A funeral service to honor Kris's life will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Valena C. Jones United Methodist Church, located at 248 Sycamore St., Bay St. Louis, MS, 39520. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., under the direction of Baylous Funeral Home. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, 304 South Necaise Ave., Bay St. Louis, MS, 39520, adjacent to St. Rose De Lima Church.
