Jimmie Lou Cooper, age 83, of Picayune, MS, passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2021, in Picayune, MS. A native of Picayune, she dedicated her career as a dietary aide at the Picayune Convalescent Home until her retirement. Jimmie Lou was a devoted member of East Jerusalem Baptist Church for nearly 60 years, serving on the Pastor Aide Committee and Mission #2 Society. Her commitment to her faith and community was unwavering, even as she became the primary caregiver for her husband.
She is survived by her loving husband, Proby Cooper, and her five daughters: Elice Cooper Johnson, Cynthia Cooper Branch, Sonji Cooper Harris, all residing in California, and Darlene Cooper and Veronica Cooper, both in Connecticut. Jimmie Lou was a cherished grandmother to 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Zellma Whitehead of New Orleans, Barbara Whitehead of Picayune, and Clydell Royal of Houston.
Jimmie Lou was preceded in death by her parents, LLoyd and Iretha Whitehead, and her siblings, Oreace Whitehead, Johnny Whitehead, LLoyd Whitehead, and Richard Whitehead.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2021, at 1 p.m. at Baylous Funeral Home, with Rev. Brian Dees officiating. Burial will follow in Picayune Cemetery. A walk-through viewing will take place on the same day from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at Baylous Funeral Home. Jimmie Lou will be remembered for her kindness, dedication, and the love she shared with all who knew her.
