Obituary

Rev. James E. McGill, age 85, of Poplarville, MS, passed away on September 7, 2019, at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, MS. A native of Poplarville, MS, Rev. McGill served his country in the United States Army and was a dedicated minister, retiring from New Hope Methodist Church in Columbia, MS. He was a cherished member of the Muriel Chapel Baptist Church community.

He is survived by his son, Ronald McGill of Hattiesburg, MS; sisters, Betty Tillman of Poplarville, MS, and Shirley Collier of Monticello, MS; brothers, Henry McGill of Detroit, MI, Archie McGill, and Rev. Bobby McGill, both of Poplarville, MS; grandson, Alex McGill and granddaughter Maria McGill, both of Hattiesburg, MS; daughter-in-law Debra McGill of Poplarville, MS; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Rev. McGill was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Helen McGill; son, Edward McGill; daughter, Pamela McGill; grandson, Phillip McGill; parents, Archie and Lula Mae McGill; and brother, Billy McGill.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2019, at 11 a.m. in Muriel Chapel United Methodist Church, with Rev. Nathaniel Barnum Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Rose Park Cemetery, Poplarville, MS, under the direction of Baylous Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the church.
