Obituary

James Edward Galloway, affectionately known as "Pop," was born on February 19, 1953, in Wiggins, MS, to the late Lawrence and JoAnn Galloway. He graduated from Locker High School in 1971 and later joined the United States Army, eventually retiring from the Lumberton National Guard.

James was a devoted member of his community, serving as the leader of the Boy Scout Club and coaching the Little League Baseball team. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, having joined Bethlehem Baptist Church at an early age, where he became a Deacon and Minister. He later served as a Youth Pastor at Gateway Baptist Church.

On May 24, 1980, James married Brenda Strickland, and together they raised their family with love and devotion. James entered into his heavenly home on January 6, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and JoAnn Galloway, and several siblings, as well as his beloved daughter, Deeonica Galloway Goss.

James leaves behind his cherished wife, Brenda Galloway of Lumberton, MS; daughters Ava Galloway of Wiggins, MS, and Lasonya Harris (Larry) of Waxahachie, TX; sons Reverend Markiel Galloway (Monique) of Hattiesburg, MS, and Reverend Durrell Galloway (Jennifer) of Poplarville, MS; along with grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and special friends from the Class of 1971.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon on January 20, 2024, at Gateway Baptist Church, 1130 West Main Ave, Lumberton, MS 39455, followed by the funeral service at 12:00 noon. James will be laid to rest at Love Quarters Cemetery, 63 Piatonia Road, Lumberton, MS 39455.
