Gerald "Jerry" Staten, born on September 5, 1955, in Picayune, Mississippi, passed away on November 4, 2025. He was the beloved son of the late Leila (James) Staten and James Staten Sr. Gerald was educated in the Hancock County School System and graduated from Hancock High School in 1973. Shortly after, he answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Army in 1974, where he proudly served until 1978.
Known for his humble spirit, big heart, and love for his family, Gerald enjoyed fishing, eating good food, discussing the Bible with his brothers, and spending time with his family. His presence brought joy, laughter, and wisdom to those around him.
Gerald was preceded in death by his mother, Leila (James) Staten; father, James Staten Sr; sisters, Delores Curry, Quintella Fulton, and Pearl Ann Simmons; and brother, James Staten Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Theresa McKay; four grandchildren, Vincent Lang Jr, Tianna Lang, Ariel Johnson, and Neveah Johnson, all of Bay Saint Louis, MS; brothers, Raymond Staten and Bruce Staten; sisters, Gail Cawthon and Annette Thornton; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved him dearly.
Visitation hours will be held on November 10, 2025, at Baylous Funeral Home from 10:00am to 10:55am, followed by a service at 11:00am. Interment will take place at New Palestine Cemetery, Picayune, MS.
Though Gerald's earthly journey has ended, his legacy of kindness, faith, and family love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
