Christine Frelix Doby, age 93, of Picayune, MS, passed away on July 31, 2024, at St. Oaks Care Center Assisted Living in Carriere, MS. Born in Hub, MS, Christine was a dedicated educator and a retired school teacher. She earned her Master's Degree from Alcorn State University and was a charter member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
Christine was an active member of Pilgrim Bound Baptist Church, where she served in various roles including Sunday School Teacher, Assistant Superintendent, Announcing Clerk, Senior Choir, Senior Mission, and Deaconess. Her leadership extended beyond the church as she held positions such as Former President of MS. Home Economics Section, Former President of Retired Teachers of Pearl River County, and District Adviser of New Homemakers of America. She was also involved with organizations like AHEA, AVA, and served as the Fifth Sunday Singing Announcing Clerk and Sunday School Teacher for the Fifth Sunday Sunday School Union.
Survivors include: husband, Lex Doby of Picayune, MS., 4 step-children: Kevin Lex ( Felicia) Doby, of Fayetteville, GA., Constance Doby of Picayune, MS. and Karen (Samuel) Robinson, Lyndhurst, OH., 4 step-grandchildren; Khayla and Kalen Doby, Nicholas B. Blackshire, Noah S. Robinson, 1 step-great-granddaughter, Kendall Blackshire, 1 brother, Rev. Floyd Lee Frelix, 1 sister, Loretta F. Williams, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death: 1 step-daughter, Jeanetta F. Doby, parents: Johnnie and Johnnie Mae Frelix, siblings: John L. and Charlie Frelix, Sarah F. Haggerty and Almettia F. Dunbar.
Preceding the funeral service between 12:30pm to 1:30pm, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority will conduct "A Final Act of Loyal Sisterhood" ceremony that is open to the public.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Pilgrim Bound Baptist Church to honor her life and legacy. Rev. Henry Marshall will officiate at the service.
Burial will be in the Picayune 8th Street Cemetery, under the direction of Baylous Funeral Home.
