Carl Elwin Lather, a beloved member of the Picayune community, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2024, at Specialty Select Hospital in Gulfport, Miss. Born on September 4, 1958, in Laurel, Miss., Carl was the cherished son of the late Troy and Lou Ella "Dear" Lather. A native of Picayune, Carl was a devoted member of the Rose of Sharon Church of God in Christ, where he found spiritual fulfillment and community.
Carl was preceded in death by his loving wife, Deneice Lather, his parents, and several siblings, including Brenda J. Lather, Susan Scott, Faye Lather, Vernill Wilbert, Donald Lather, Troy E. Lather, Darryl Lather, and Ray Lather, as well as his daughter-in-law, Emily Lather.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and family, survived by his three sons, Carl Jr., Matthew, and Corey Lather, all residing in San Francisco, Calif. He is also survived by his siblings, Troy Jordan (Marie) of Humble, Texas, Evelyn B. Brooks, Doris Buckley, James Roche (Simone), and Linda Lather, all of Picayune, Miss., Sandra Benson (Leon) of Camden, Md., Michael Lather of Fremont, Ohio, and Jeffery B. Lather of Oakland, Calif. Carl's memory will be cherished by his grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
A funeral service to honor Carl's life will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 11 a.m., with visitation from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., at the Rose of Sharon Church of God in Christ, located at 500 North Beech Street, Picayune, Miss. Pastor Elder Simmons will officiate the service.
Carl will be laid to rest in New Palestine Cemetery under the direction of Baylous Funeral Home.
