With heavy hearts, we announce that Mr. Alvin Carter, 75, a beloved native of Petal, MS, departed this life to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at his home in Picayune, MS.
On Thursday, October 8, 2026, Family & Friends Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Baylous Funeral Home, 300 N. Blanks Avenue, Picayune, MS 39466.
On Friday, October 9, 2026, Funeral Services will be held at Mount Vernon Missionary Baptist Church located at 883 E Central Ave (Highway 42), Petal, MS 39465. Viewing Hours will be from 1:00 p.m. until 1:55 p.m. The Funeral Service will begin at 2:00 p.m.
The Interment Service will take place in Mount Vernon Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, 883 E Central Ave (Highway 42), Petal, MS 3946 , following the funeral service.
Alvin is survived by a son, Christopher (Ramonda) Carter; a daughter, Deidara (LaMar) Thompson; daughter-inlaw, Deborah Goff-Carter; two God-daughters, Marquita Porter and Jessica Valentine-Pettway (Charles); grandchildren, Carter and Katherine Thompson, Nola Carter, Cameron Carter-Pissis (Mehdi) Aliciana Carter-Reed (Deonta), Noah Carter, Aaliyah Carter, Jeremy Goff,and Markelle Goff, Adonte Jackson (Savanna), Christopher Nixon, and Curdevone Jackson; great-grandchildren, Adohnys Reed, Malik Pissis and Jamari Goff; siblings, Rose Carter Griffin, Laura Carter-Williams, Mary Florence-Bouchee, Jessie Carter-Hicks (Roosevelt), Louise Carter-Johnson; brothersin-law, Robert Porter (Rena), Ray ( Belinda), Charles (Gretchen) Porter, and Ronnie Porter; sister-in-law, Linta Thomas and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Genetta Carter; wife Mary Katherine Porter-Carter; son, Alvin Fitzgerald Carter; two sisters, Earnastine Carter-King and Flora Carter-Anderson, and two brothers, Ray Albert Carter and George Carter.
